Induction/Transition
We believe that children will have greater success if they have a good induction when they start school.
Children who start in our Nursery will have a home visit from some of our Nursery staff and then parents / carers will be able to attend school as part of stay and play events before the child starts school fully.
Children who start in Reception will have a home visit if they are not already a member of our Nursery. There will also be a series of parent meetings so staff can explain how we work and give opportunities for parents / carers to ask any questions.
In School Transition
Each year group will hold a start of year meeting for all parents, this explains what the year group expectations are, as well as practical things such as when the PE days are.
We also hold transition days within school in June / July so that the children can meet their new teacher and become familiar with their new classroom.
Children who are in year transfers will have a meeting with the pastoral team to ensure that the child's move into Deeplish will be as smooth as possible. Once the child is in school they will have a 'buddy' who will support them with life at Deeplish. If a child does not have English then we will buddy them up with a child who speaks the same language.
Move to Secondary
When children do move on from Deeplish we have very good links with the local secondary school. The Year 7 staff from secondary schools will come into Deeplish and explain what the children can expect and also what they can do to be secondary ready.
